We can change this world with words like "love" and "freedom."

Seeing Those Who Haven’t Been Seen

If you spend time carrying the burdens of others who are dealing with some of the shittiest blows you can imagine–sickness, addiction, losing everything and everyone that matters–you know how hard it is to keep focused on their pain without taking it on yourself.  How do you keep that fire burning through endless pain and remember where they end and you begin?

Some of us give and give and give until there’s nothing left for us. We have to turn our backs and walk away from the pain because we just can’t face it anymore. We’d rather give up the call of compassion and service than listen to one more story and dry the tears of one more person with a broken heart. Others of us go through the motions, but our fire is nothing more than ashes. We can’t sustain the people who come to us anymore, and we can’t sustain ourselves. Everyone walks away left feeling a little emptier instead of being increased by the connection between us.

Have you ever thought of yourself as “someone who hasn’t been seen”? I am here to hold your stories and to see you for who you are. My friend Desiree Adaway wrote in her e-book Unconquerable, “Do not live in fear of catching fire.” For some reason, I just thought of an old church song, “It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and then all those around can warm up in its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love. Once you’ve experienced it, you spread His love to everyone, you want to pass it on.”

This won’t be a place where I preach to you. I don’t want anyone to feel excluded or condemned. This is the inner sanctuary where we can have the important conversations about faith, spirituality, service, compassion. This is where one spark can spread light to a greater community. Don’t burn out–burn on and on and on and on…..AND PASS IT ON!

So here is what I’m proposing. If you care about people, but you feel that spark starting to die, come join us in this sanctuary. It will be a secret place for us to share everything that is getting in our way, what might help us overcome those things, and things we’ve done for ourselves that might help someone else. The community will be accessible only to people with the password, so you can feel free to say anything you need to. I will be inviting some wonderful people to come share with us, many of whom have experience in the nonprofit world. The sanctuary will be open to a limited number at first, so don’t wait too long. Membership will be $15 a month. You can pay at the below e-mail address through Paypal.

If you feel the need to talk it out or see what others think of some big stuff, join us. Contact me at gentlespirit512@gmail.com to get started.
